Roles & Responsibility Of Managers In Improving The Performance Of People To Achieve Desired Outcomes
1. As A Planner
The manager as a planner should set the goals and make strategies to
achieve these goals. He provides the steps or roadmaps, which are to be
followed by subordinates, to get targeted goals on time. For example, the
planning to complete 1 year project from workers are designed so that each
worker performs his duty on scheduled time.
2. As An Organizer
He must assign tasks to subordinates according to their skills and roles.
Decisions should be made to arrange tasks to help the people to complete their
working activities within their limits and work as a unit to achieve
organizational goals. For example, an office boy is responsible for office
routine tasks such as deliver office files, meals, drinking water, etc., to
staff on time.
3. As A Leader
He also acts as a leader to guide, motivate and encourage their
subordinates’ working performance to get desired results. For example, if an employee is new one, then
guide and encourage him in performing his routine tasks.
In case of good group work done by team members, he motivates them or in
case of difficult time, he leads the team from the front to achieve common
goals.
4. As A Controller And Monitor
He must control the activities of his subordinates by implementing proper control
systems. For example, he may use reward system for performance measurement, so
that people working in an organization get rewards for achieving better results
for the organization. On the other hand, punishments (not given bonuses,
incentives, compensations, benefits, etc., or may be fired off in case of consistent
poor performance) may be given to employees.
During the working activities of the employees, he can visit their job
places to check and monitor their performances. He should appreciate them on
their good going working activities. This step increases their morale and helps
them to carry on such performance to achieve targets on time.
The manager monitors the performance of the employees through daily
reports, so that improvements can be made to the working performance of
employees. He evaluates the actual performance by comparing it with set
performance & goals, so that improvements must be made to achieve desired
outcomes for the organization.
5. As A Problem-Solver
He must solve the problems of his subordinates during working activities.
For example, if the workers need a new machinery for factory works, then he
should provide this machinery to them for the smooth flowing of work.
6. As A Communicator
The manager must communicate with his subordinate for conveying the messages of the organization for the smooth flowing of the business activities. There should be no communication gap between him and his subordinates. For example, a manager may communicate the plan of today to the workers, that is “to work on the designing of the furniture”, as approved by the top management.
