Informal Communication Advantages And Disadvantages
Advantages Of IC
1. Quick And Speedy
The information flows quickly and speedy from one person to another person
this channel of communication network in an organization as there is no formal
structured to be followed to spread and share the messages with audience.
2. Flexibility
As there are no strict rules and procedures to be followed, so one feels comfortable
in sharing information with their colleagues.
3. Increase In Performance
As the employees share ideas, work experiences, etc., with each other, they
learn more. When they are motivated and encouraged from senior employees after listening
appreciation words, they show their full commitment in doing their work tasks
which ultimately increases their performances to achieve common goals.
4. Fulfil Social Needs
Employees need social relations where they need to express their feeling
& emotions related to jobs, work experiences, salary packages, daily work
activities, issues during job tasks, etc., to satisfy themselves in carrying
out their career life.
5. Facilitation of Coordination
When employees share important ideas & knowledge to improve working
performance, then they are encouraged and motivated to build strong coordination
between each other which is also helpful for the organization to achieve its desired
outcomes efficiently and effectively
Disadvantages Of IC
1. Unstructured And Unreliable
This communication network is unstructured i.e., information flows without
following proper direction and guidelines. It is also not reliable as
information is spread through unofficial organizational network without proper
verification of the subject matter. The information may be spread just on the
basis of rumors or biasness or there is a hidden agenda behind it, which
creates conflicts among employees and may lead to dispute among them.
2. No One Try To Take Responsibility
As under this network, there is no proper way of spreading the information within the organization, so everyone avoids to take the responsibility of the information shared based on rumors, hidden agendas or personal opinions. So, ethical and moral grounds should not be crossed and everyone acts within his limits to control rumors, which is not confirmed and verified, in the organization.
