Describe How The Senior Management Can Effectively Plan In Today's Dynamic Environment?
There are important steps which a senior manager can follow in today’s
dynamic environment.
(i) Make Clear-Cut Goals And Flexible Plans
The manager should realize that under such environment, goals should be
clear-cut. He must know how to carry on the roadmap to achieve these targets.
He can change or abandon the plans, but he must be clear about achieving
targets. For example, in case of depression in economy, he should focus on the
main plan to achieve results i.e., if the company’ goal is to become the market
leader, then he should plan accordingly, whatever the situation arises, to achieve
this target.
(ii) Get Latest Information Of Environment Changes
The manager should be well aware of the environmental changes. For example,
if the manager is informed that the demand for product decreases due to market
changes such as the entrance of a new company selling prices at low rates, then
the manager needs to make plan on how to compete in the market after making
complete market analysis.
(iii) Learn From Past Experiences
The manager should learn from past experiences and should adopt a persistent
planning which contribute to improved performance. In this way, he learns to
plan well and the quality of planning is also improved. For example, in uncertain
environment, persistent planning helps in improving performance i.e., to
overcome lower quality products’ problems, consistency in planning is applied
in order to improve quality of products by hiring skillful staff, latest
production methods, etc.
(iv) Setting Goals And Developing Plans At All Levels Of Organization
In dynamic environment, organizational goals can be set at lower level and
upper-level. The employees can set sub-goals and develop plans for making means
in order to achieve main goals set at higher level of management. Trainings are
provided to employees in setting and developing goals. For example, specific
and sub-goals to improve quality of products are set and develop a plan to
implement by hiring skillful staff, purchasing of quality equipment, etc., in
order to achieve main goals “improve quality at organizational level and gain competitive
advantage”.
(V) Participation And Mutual Agreement
Members are allowed to take participation in developing plans agree on them
in order achieve targets under such change in environment. For examples, plans
are made after taking participation and mutual agreement of all members to
achieve goals are more effective because employees better know the situations and
can give suggestions in setting goals effectively while the environment is
continuously change in a short period of time.

So, we can say that the senior management should adopt both specific and flexible planning according to changes in environment in order to achieve goals effectively.
