What Is Universality Of Management? Why Is It Important?
What Is Universality Of Management (UM) Approach / Concept
According to this approach, the Management System (MS) or Managerial
Principles are applicable in every organization (whether Profit or Non-Profit
Organization), irrespective of its size (smaller, medium or larger), types (hierarchical,
functional, flat, matrix, divisional, etc.), industry (Manufacturing, trading
or service), and geographical location (local, international, digital). All the
fundamental functions (planning, organizing, leading and controlling),
principles, rules and regulations of Management (M) are applicable and can be
used successfully in every kind of organization. These principles are not
limited to specific organization but generally applicable to all of the organizations
at every level of M (Top, Middle and Bottom) as these are common and basic
rules for every organization.
Importance of UM In Any Organization
1. Proper Management System (PMS)
If there is no management at all or poor MS in any organization, then the job tasks or works are not performed on time. There is no direction which goals to follow. Everyone follows one’s own goals. No one knows whose is responsible for a specific task? What are their responsibilities, duties and rights? Who will direct and lead the organization? Who is responsible to control the activities of the workers, employees, staff, management itself or overall organization.
So, it is only possible due to the implementation of PMS which defines the
clear goals to be pursued, organizes the activities, leads, directs and motivates
the people working in organization and control the activities of the individuals,
groups, team members or overall organization by comparing actual or achieved
performance with the set goals, target s, desire outcome to evaluate the
results e.g., to find out Efficiency and Effectiveness of tasks performed, making
decisions which goals to follow or not, etc., and, finally, take corrective
actions to solve the issues / problems.
2. Increase In Efficiency, Effectiveness, Quality And Productivity
Due to Effective Management System (EMS), the organization can achieve its set
goals or desired outcome with the minimum use of its resources at minimum cost
and avoiding wastage of resources without losing quality. It can gain high efficiency
ad high effectiveness levels. This increases the productivity and quality of the
work done as everything is well managed i.e., there is proper time management, utilizing
of human resources such as trained and professional workers and employees,
utilization of advanced technology system, etc., which makes easy for the
managers to implement their plans successfully to achieve organizational
objectives & goals.
3. Increase In Coordination & Collaboration
There is a coordination exists between managers and their subordinates. Each
work requires the collective efforts of top management, workers and employees
to achieve common goals. Due to EMS, the works are assigned to the right and
eligible persons who work efficiently and effectively to achieve the common
goals.
Besides coordination, this system also builds Collaboration within the different departments of the organization as well as with the partners (creating partnership networks) and stakeholders (suppliers, customers, law making agencies, government) outside the boundary of the organization. This can enhance performance of working tasks, increasing sharing of knowledge, ideas, and other resources to achieve common goals.
4. Gain Competitive Advantage
By producing, creating unique quality products or services, ideas, things
using intellectual resources such as knowledge, experience, experiences,
technology system, etc., any company can gain competitive advantage over its
major competitors.
5. Internationally Applicable Managerial Principles
In this global world, the managerial principles are applicable worldwide. In running any international organization, in the foreign market or in the local market or in the digital marketplace, these principles are implemented i.e., how to compete in the market, how to increase sales targets, how to cut cost of production, etc.
